Dr Cristina Murphy, BSc, MSc, PhD
Dr. Cristina Murphy is a Consultant Audiologist and Clinical Researcher specializing in Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). With 25 years of experience in the field, she focuses on both diagnosis and intervention. Her contributions to the field are both clinical and academic, including several papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and presentations as an invited speaker at national and international conferences. As a respected member of the Steering Committee for the APD Special Interest Group of the British Society of Audiology (BSA), she remains well-connected and informed about the latest advancements in the field.
In addition to her role at THE APD CLINIC, she is a Visiting Lecturer at the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra in Portugal and Aston University, where she shares her knowledge and expertise with the next generation of audiologists.

Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)
Auditory Processing Disorder is characterized by problems in understanding what we hear, especially in acoustically challenging situations, such as in the presence of background noise, on the phone, or when many people talk simultaneously. Interestingly, the problem is not explained by hearing loss, as most individuals have normal hearing.
The APD intervention involves an individualized management programme focused on changes in the listening environment, deficit-specific auditory training and implementation of compensatory strategies.
